Re: Open Topic

Forearm Grip Strength-

Hand-grip strength is very important in every aspect of grappling and is often overlooked. I have heard many students complain that their hands and fingers ache after first starting to train in Jiu-Jitsu. Many students at first do not have the forearm strength /grip strength to hold a good grip on a sleeve or a pant leg of kimono when they first start to train.
It is helpful for the forearm, wrist, hand, and fingers, to be flexed and stengthened, to ensure grip strength and prevent injury to these body parts. The objective of the exercises is to warm-up the joints before training. Better strength will also help in your submissions, positions, and escapes.

Re: Open Topic

You might want to add wrist strength to this regiment as well. You can have the strongest hands on the planet but if your wrists are weak you wont get very far in the ring. Remember the wrists are the weakest links. People often forget that in training. A good exorcise for this is plate curls, but start out with a 25lb plate first. This not only works your wrists but put pressure on your fingers as well and that's what you want especially when you are training for Jujitsu.
