Jacen Flynn: Back Control "Cabbage Patch Assist" Near Side
Jacen Flynn describes how to perform the Cabbage Patch Assist On The Near Side.
This technique got it's name because it mimics the arm movement of the Cabbage Patch dance move. The technique was developed to increase Back Control efficiency by offering a new series of flows from the Lazy Boy position. This is one of Jacen's Back Control techniques that gives practitioners extra options once they have achieved Back Control. This version of the Cabbage Patch Assist flow describes how to go from the Lazy Boy Back Control position to a series of submissions from the near side. Submission shown in this technique include the Triangle Choke and Armbar.
- Step 1: Place opponent into the lazy boy position.
- Step 2: Secure the harness grip. Remember your under arm always grabs your over arm.
- Step 3: Shift your hips to the same side your head is on and switch you feet.
- Step 4: Clear the neck and bring your legs up, cross your feet and trap your opponent's arm.
- Step 5: Keeping the Gift Wrap slowly walk your legs up until the lock is tight.
- Step 6: Switch your arms by pulling your outside arm through the loop with your under arm.
- Step 7: Use a palm strike to secure a deep hook on your opponent's arm.
- Step 8: Grab your opponent's leg with your free arm and lay back into the Spider Web position.
- Step 9: Squeeze tightly with your legs and push your opponent's head down to their chest.
- Step 10: Extend your opponent's arm and lean back to check the Armbar.
- Step 11: Use the new angle to secure a deep Triangle to finish the flow.
Special notes:

- Be sure to keep a tight pinch with your legs as you walk them up.
- Uses a palm strike to secure a deep hook on your opponent's arm before attempting the armbar.
- While performing the Triangle, turn your hips toward your opponent to force their head down.
